FUHR launches SmartAccess multiscan biometric access solution

FUHR has expanded its smart access control range with the launch of SmartAccess multiscan, a compact biometric fingerprint scanner designed to unlock FUHR motorised multipoint locking systems securely and conveniently.


Developed for aluminium, timber and PVC-U doors, SmartAccess multiscan allows users to unlock their door using their fingerprint, turning the finger into a personal key that cannot be lost, forgotten or shared. The unit can be surface-mounted or flush-mounted into the door leaf, or integrated into a pull handle, giving architects and specifiers flexibility across a wide range of entrance door designs.


SmartAccess multiscan is managed via the FUHR SmartAccess app and communicates via Bluetooth 5 with the SmartAccess Module (SAM), which is fitted inside the door. The system requires no Wi-Fi, internet connection, mobile data or cloud service, providing a closed security loop with encrypted communication between the scanner and the SAM module.


All biometric data is stored locally and encrypted within the door itself. No external party can access the data, including FUHR. The fingerprint scanner is also permanently paired with the SmartAccess Module SAM, preventing manipulation through device swapping or unauthorised replacement.


Security is further strengthened through liveness detection, which verifies that the fingerprint presented is from a living finger and helps prevent tampering attempts using artificial copies. With a false acceptance rate of 1 in 10,000,000, the likelihood of unauthorised access is comparable to winning the lottery jackpot. By comparison, the false acceptance rate of a four-digit PIN code is 1 in 10,000.


The system uses tested European sensor technology from ekey and can store up to 100 fingerprints. It also adapts to gradual changes in fingerprints, including growing children’s fingers or minor fingertip injuries, helping maintain reliable day-to-day use in residential and light commercial settings.


The discreet module is small in size and features a multicoloured LED ring to indicate status. Covers are available in brushed stainless steel or matt black, with an IP56 protection rating when fitted with the cover. The system operates on 12–24V DC, with an integrated power buffer and no battery changes required.
